Pro-Xylane, also known as Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydropyrantriol, is an anti-aging ingredient initially extracted from beech trees by the research and development center of the L’Oréal Group. This component is derived from xylose in beech wood and took 14 years of research to be invented and popularized.
Boswellic acid was originally extracted from natural beech trees, but with the development of technology, most of the boswellic acid on the market nowadays is produced by artificial synthesis. This artificial synthesis process has become very mature and can effectively produce chemical components identical to those extracted naturally.
With the expiration of the patent for Proxylane in the L’Oréal Group, an increasing number of domestic brands have begun to use this ingredient, and domestic raw material manufacturers have also started to promote the localization of Proxylane. This has led to the emergence of many self-developed ingredients based on Proxylane in the market, such as “Borrein” and “Purrein,” although their chemical names remain Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydroxybutyrate, their molecular configurations may differ, resulting in variations in efficacy.
In summary, Proxylane was originally derived from natural extracts of beech trees, but is now mainly produced through artificial synthesis. With the expansion of the market and advances in technology, Proxylane and its similar ingredients are increasingly used in skincare products.
